Summer Swim KickOff Cancelled

There are no pools in the city that can accommodate us today, so the swim is cancelled. Apparently they are suffering from a severe shortage of life guards so they are limiting their group bookings, and when you compound that by no one really knowing what needs to happen, it's an impossibility. That would have been great to know when I first started this journey and not at 5:30 the night before! I ended up getting the run around from all four outdoor pools trying to make this work, but in the end, a no go, and I found out last night. I thought I better post this in case some people who hadn't replied still planned on attending.

The pools are still open but they are limited in the number of people who can walk in, and if you decide to go, you will have to pay.

Anyway, for those who would be interested, I would still like to do this, but but I would book a pool a couple weeks from now and pay the fee for it. It would work out to be about $2-3 per person, depending on how many would be interested in attending and how long we want to stay. However, I believe we could start it at like 10 a.m. if we wanted to, without the public coming in, but I'd have to check.

Please email me if you are interested in this option.

Next year I will book in January, lol!

Disappointed,

Carol-Lynne

Summer Kick-Off Swim Party June 25th

You are all invited to a Summer Kick Off Swim Party at Lathey Pool from 1-3 on Thursday, June 25th! Tell them you are with the homeschoolers and there is no charge for children OR adults. You do need to let me know how many adults and kids are coming so I can give them numbers, so they can have enough lifeguards. I said about 30-40 adults and kids so if a 100 show up I'm in trouble. Please email me at clmquintin@gmail.com to let me know how many can attend.

It would be great to get some more comraderie going among the homeschoolers and that starts with getting to know each other :) They have a volleyball net I think and there is space for frisbees (preferably soft) and catch if anyone wants to. All ages are welcome of course, and please pass the invite along to those who don't regularly use email.

Cheers,

Carol-Lynne

P.S. Best quotes:  "Sure, homeschoolers qualify for the free rental. What school does your child go to?" and "Rental does not mean you get the pool to yourselves" (so be warned, there may be the raging public there too, but I figured 1 p.m. on a Thursday - there won't be that many. There won't be any other school groups anyways).

2009 Homeschool Science, Art and History Fair

Wednesday, June 17, 2009 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Get your projects ready and mark your calendar for the 2009 Homeschool Science, Art and History Fair! This year’s fair will be held on Wednesday, June 17, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Wildwood School Gymnasium (203 Rosedale Road, Saskatoon). Please spread the word around as we welcome all homeschoolers in and around Saskatoon regardless of school division or community.

This event is not a judged event but each display will have a comment sheet for visitors to remark on.  All ages and grades to are welcome to participate. Please invite parents, relatives, friends and school division representatives to come and see the hard work of your children. Snacks (nut free) and drinks as well as Tim’s decaf will be provided.

Set up will begin at 6 p.m. and dismantling at 8:30 p.m. Volunteers to help with cleanup are welcome, and all displayers are expected to leave their space as they found it to the best of their ability.

Entry will be $5 per student. If you wish to submit more than one art item that is fine, but keep it reasonable for space please!

I am really hoping for a fantastic evening for the kids and a big part of making that happen is to have lots of displays and lots of visitors to the event.  Please email Carol-Lynne Quintin at clmquintin@gmail.com to register and for more information.

Travelling

We've been in contact with some of you in the past year or two, but for the others, I’ll introduce ourselves.  We are the Loewens: parents, educators, and also tour guides, with a passion to show high school students the culture, beauty, and treasures of Europe. If you’ve ever considered an educational tour, a field trip, or grad trip to Europe, we are offering 6 new tours to various countries on the European continent.  We’ve planned these for the off-season in order to give the students a price break, plus a chance to enjoy Europe without all the tourist crowds.

Yes, our tours are educational, but designed so you are having too much fun to notice!  Of course we’ll explain what you’re seeing, but you’ll hear no long, boring history lectures; rather you’ll be having hands-on fun.  Ride the elevator to the very top of the Eiffel Tower, view Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel paintings up close, wonder at (and taste if you dare!) the unusual edibles in the Vienna market, climb up inside a windmill in Holland, ride a gondola to the highest German peak in the Alps, slide down a wooden slide deep beneath the surface of the earth in Salzburg’s salt mine, and the list goes on and on.  Check www.loewentours.com for photos and much more!

Our tours are jam-packed with sights and activities, giving the students a rich experience. Since these are not bus tours we travel by local transportation, including trains and trams. We also stay in quality youth hostels or small family-run hotels, so the students have opportunities to meet other Europeans.

Another option, if you have a group of 15+ students we can also customize a tour for your group.  Let us know the places you’re interested in, and the dates that suit you, and we’ll take it from there.  Loewentours provides the tour guides as well as chaperones.  If you would like references, we’ll be happy to supply those; just ask.

We would be pleased if you would post the enclosed flyer in a location where your students can view it.  We have also attached a link to our Loewentours flyer online.  If your students have access to a computer, would you please forward it to them or post it for your students to view? Just paste the following link in your browser bar: http://www.loewentours.com/forms/Loewentours_Flyer.pdf

Thanks so much!

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

The Loewens
